The BIOBLITZ Challenge organised by the Lower Austrian Nature Parks has come to a successful conclusion. Thanks to the tremendous commitment of nature enthusiasts from across Lower Austria, thousands of sightings were recorded and the biodiversity in our nature parks was documented.

BioBlitz Challenge May 2026

in the Sierningtal-Flatzer Wand
Nature Park. All sightings in May were recorded in the nature park municipality of Ternitz.
Two guided walks were organised: on 4 May to see the auricula in bloom on the Gösing, and on 23 May to see the diptam in bloom on the Flatzer Wand.

What is a Bioblitz?

A BioBlitz is a collaborative species survey. The aim is to discover and document as many plant, animal and fungus species as possible within a set period of time. 

For the BIOBLITZ Challenge, participants used the iNaturalist platform. Sightings were photographed, uploaded and identified together with the community.

The data collected makes an important contribution to nature observation, research and nature conservation.

Even after the BioBlitz has ended, nature enthusiasts are invited to continue documenting their observations on iNaturalist and thus contribute to research into local biodiversity.
